Do teachers / students overuse the calculator and rule book in class? What is your opinion?

Rule book during the tests is too much "help" for students. They do not learn facts, but only the use of aids. One should be able to both. Yes, please.

Calculator proponents argue that calculators

* Allows students to spend less time on tedious calculations and more time to understand and solve problems.
* Helps students develop better number sense.
* Allows students to study math concepts they might not try if they had to perform the related calculations yourself.
* Make students more confidence in their mathematical abilities.

But critics say that calculators

* Produce students who can not perform basic tasks without a calculator.
* Encourage students to randomly sample a variety of mathematical calculations without any real understanding of something that is appropriate or why.
* Prevents students to discover and understand the underlying mathematical concepts.
* Gives students a false sense of security about their mathematical abilities.
